today my gf drove the focus through some standing water. she said she saw "white smoke" (i'm guessing steam from the exhaust), then the car "popped" and she heard a grinding noise and the engine shut off. as you know, the car has a CAI, but i forgot to tell her about driving through water with it. so, the reason it cut off is, i'm guessing, hydrolock. but the car will not even try to turn over now, the key just clicks when you try to start it (1 click not a series of them). i talked to a friend and he thinks the "pop" was the starter solenoid wires grounding out and frying the solenoid.

i really, really, really, need an answer to fix this since we are down to 1 car again.

take off the intake, put ur finger into the tb or air intake tube. if u feel water in the tb or intake tube u haz hydrolock.

you can also take a braker bar with the right socket and put it on the under drive pullly and try to turn it if you cant turn it then its hydrolocked. take the sparkplugs off to do this hear for gurgelling sounds. and next time try putting a bypass valve on the intake to keep this from happening. good luck.

Had the same happen to my R32 ran into some water, then the car would not start at all. I thought the starter had messed up but it wasn't, Took the spark plugs off and had shit load of water. Tried to start it with out the spark plugs all the water shoot out. Then added some tranny oil into the pistons to clean them out. After that changed the oil twice to make sure all the water was out, and worked perfectly fine no engine light.

well, i pulled the plugs today and the cylinders DO NOT have water in them, thankfully. car still just clicks when you turn the key to start it though. battery is fine, i put it in my daytona. trying to track down diagrams to see where the starter is, as when i crawled under the car i could not locate it. next step is to pull the starter and get it tested. also need to check fuses under hood to see if maybe one of them blew.

still trying to figure out what exactly happened to the car though.
